Deciding
to become a foster parent is a big decision and should not
be taken lightly. Foster parents are an extremely important part
of the social service and mental health system in the treatment
of youth in substitute care. In many cases the bond you form with
these
children
will
be life long and your impact on them during this time is crucial
to their development.
What We Look For
We expect excellence in all of our programs and that is the same
of our foster parents. We are striving to be the best in the state
of Kentucky and we cannot achieve that goal without exceptional
foster parents. Here are some things we look for in our foster
parents:
•
24 Years of Age (or older), Single or Married
•
Dedicated to the Goals and Mission of our Agency
•
Compassion for Children in Need
•
Strong Morals and Family Values
•
Willing to Make Tough Decisions in a Crisis
Things You Should Know Age Group - We work with children up to the age of 21
in our foster care and independent living programs. Our focus is
on the age group of 8-12 but we ask our parents
to accept any age
up
to 21.
Compensation – Foster parents are reimbursed for
the child's care based on their specific needs. Payments are received
by the 10th of each month
for the
previous month of care.
Respite – This is a service for the foster parents
or foster children who may need a short-term placement for various
reasons:
family emergencies, work related issues or problems within the
home.
Training – Foster Parents will have 46 hours of
training before the placement of children in their home. A few
examples
of training are CPR, first aid, crisis intervention, substance
abuse issues and stages of development. Foster parents must also
have a background check completed prior to a child being placed.
